HARLEM — If you got a ticket for pot possession or public urination and missed your court date, the city is giving you a chance to resolve your warrant without fear of being arrested.
On Tuesday District Attorney Cyrus Vance — along with other elected officials, the NYPD and Legal Aid — is scheduled to announce a “Clean Slate” warrant forgiveness event. This is the first event of its kind in Manhattan this year, according to the DA’s office.
The event will take place Nov. 21 at the Soul Saving Station Church in 302 W. 124th St. Anyone with warrants connected to summonses — such as littering, disorderly conduct and trespassing — in all five boroughs are encouraged to attend.
People with outstanding traffic tickets will not be able to resolve them at the "Clean Slate" event, according to the DA's office.
There will also be additional resources like job training, health care provisions and legal assistance for other issues.
The goal of the event is not only to give people who have warrants for low-level crimes a fresh starts but also to reduce unnecessary case processing in the overburdened court system, according to the DA’s office.
