STATEN ISLAND — Two Staten Island police precincts had more complaints against officers in 2014 than in the year before — and one saw the biggest rise in the city, according to statistics released by the comptroller's office.
Comptroller Scott Stringer's database that tracks lawsuits against the city, ClaimStat, found that the 122 and 123 precincts had an increase in complaints from 2013 to 2014, with the 123 rising from 4 to 13, tripling the number of claims per 100 crimes reported.
The report found that, in the 122 precinct, the number of claims increased from 11 to 7. At the same time, the number of crimes reported in that precinct fell from 744 to 720.
In the 123, the number of crimes reported remained the same at 378, according to ClaimStat numbers.
In the 120 Precinct, which had one of the highest rates of police misconduct in 2014, crime complaints decreased from 1,335 to 1,165 and the number of claims against officers slightly lowered from 56 to 52, according to the statistics.
The borough's newest precinct, the 121, increased its the number of crime complaints from 949 to 979 but decreased in 42 to 38 in claims against officers.
Claims against the city are usually filed for police misconduct, injury and damages from accidents with police vehicles and civil rights violations, according to the comptroller's office.
