NEW YORK CITY — A couple were caught having sex on a public sidewalk in Gramercy and arrested for public lewdness, according to the NYPD.

A 25-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, both homeless, were spotted doing the act beneath a sheet on the sidewalk of Irving Place near 14th Street shortly before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, according to a police report.

When officers tried to break them up, the man put up a fight, flailing his arms and trying to bite one officer on the ankle, according to a criminal complaint from the Manhattan District Attorney's office.

It took five officers to finally subdue him, according to the complaint. The man was entirely naked and the woman was nude from the waist down, police said.

Both were charged with public lewdness, and the man got an additional charge for resisting arrest.

The man pleaded guilty to the resisting arrest charge and took a seven-day jail sentence, while a judge released the woman without bail and ordered her to return to court on Dec. 17, court records show.

Their attorneys did not immediately return a request for comment.
