STATEN ISLAND — Staten Island Railway service will be suspended between the St. George and Tompkinsville stations this weekend and every weekend in November while the MTA continues to make Hurricane Sandy repairs, the agency announced Friday.

Service will not run between the stations from 1 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday during the weekends and shuttle buses will provide alternate service, according to the MTA. Service will continue to run normally between Tompkinsville and Tottenville.

The $105 million project will modernize and replace the St. George interlocking track and signal systems, as well as ferry terminal’s control tower.

Signals will also be raised from 24 to 72 inches to protect from future flooding damage, 12,000 feet of tracks will be replaced and a new third rail system will be installed.

Riders can check mta.info to get updated service information.
