KIPS BAY — A man was found dead inside a storm drain outside NYU Langone Hospital Tuesday morning, officials said.

The 49-year-old man, whose identity was not immediately released, was found in the drain at First Avenue and East 33rd Street about 11:40 a.m., FDNY and NYPD officials said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. It was not immediately clear how he got there and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Construction workers found the body while they were preparing to do work in the sewer, according to a source.

The body appeared to be badly decomposed, the source added.

The site is currently under construction for the hospital's Helen L. and Martin S. Kimmel Pavilion, according to a spokeswoman for NYU Langone.
