GREENWICH VILLAGE — A man wanted for a gunpoint robbery on Hudson Street mugged a teen near New York University earlier the same night, police said.

The NYPD originally said the suspect followed a woman into her Hudson Street building about 3:50 a.m. on Oct. 17, police said, and hit her with his gun before stealing her purse and running off.

Police now say the same suspect got out of the passenger side of a small, light-colored SUV in front of 35 East 9th St. about 15 minutes before the West Village mugging and approached an 18-year-old boy.

The suspect started a conversation with the teen, police said, then showed him a silver gun and demanded he hand over his possessions.

The suspect snatched the teen's LG cellphone and fled westward on Ninth Street in the SUV, police said.

Police believe the suspect is between 18 and 25 years old. The NYPD is distributing surveillance video of a man they say is their suspect.

Anyone with information regarding either incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
