PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS — A neighborhood juice shop wants to help parents looking for a healthy way to celebrate Halloween.

The House of Juice, an organic juice bar that opened last month on Rogers Avenue in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, will host an arm-wrestling competition between local “heroes” — firefighters, teachers, business owners and fitness trainers — and kids on Oct. 31 to promote strength and healthy living, said owner Danii Oliver.

“We wanted to involve them and show them that drinking green stuff is not bad or scary or yucky, but it’s fun it tastes good ... and look at all these heroes who do it, as well,” she said.

The winner of the competition will get $1,000 toward the shop's products, Oliver said. The Halloween event, conducted through the shop's "Feed 1,000 Kids" initiative, will also feature free juice drinks for kids, including a “Hulk Smoothie” with mango, coconut, pineapple and spinach, and a “Jedi Juice Shots” with apple, mint and cucumber.

“We don’t give out candy,” she said. “Last year, we gave out beets and strawberry sorbets and the kids really loved it.”

The store is currently looking for adult “heroes” to join the arm wrestling competition. Those who are interested can contact House of Juice through their website.

The “Kids vs. Heroes” arm wrestling competition and free juice event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 at House of Juice, located at 642 Rogers Ave.
