New York Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament

All Weekend

► Get Inside the Borough's Closed Locations

Where: Various sites around Queens

Regular New Yorkers get a peak inside some of the city's most sought-after locations only one weekend a year during Open House New York. Sites in Queens include the Brooklyn Grange in Long Island City and the TWA terminal at JFK. Check the full list here.

Saturday, Oct. 17

Bulla En El Barrio at Terraza 7 

Where: Terraza 7, 40-19 Gleane St., Elmhurst

Traditional Colombian cantadoras will perform at the music space in Elmhurst. The show begins at 9:30 p.m. and there is a $10 cover. 

Skillman Avenue Oktober Fest 

Where: Skillman Avenue, Sunnyside and Woodside

A group of neighborhood bars will celebrate Oktober Fest with music, drink and food specials. Participating pubs include Aubergine Café, The Copper Kettle, The Dog and Duck, Quaint Bistro, Flynn’s Garden Inn, The Globe and Claret Wine Bar. Pick up a $5 wristband at any of the locations for access to the festivities. The fun starts at noon. 

Queens Photo Show

Where: Astoria Coffee, 30-04 30th St., Astoria

The borough's unofficial photographer, Steve Vasquez aka Queenscapes, is presenting his photos of Queens at a photo show to help raise money for an upcoming after-school program. He'll display photos alongside another photograph, Salvador Espinoza. Proceeds will benefit Road to Greatness (R2G), a new group mean to strengthen the leadership within Queens communities.

The gallery showing opens Oct. 17 and runs from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Pumpkin Etching Class

Where: Q.E.D. Astoria, 27-16 23rd Avenue, Astoria

Learn to make a Halloween masterpiece at this three-hour class, which will focus on the “etching” style of pumpkin carving, taught by Master Carver Adam Bierton. The $40 class includes your own pumpkin and tools to carve it. It runs from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

► New York Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament

Where: Break Bar and Billiards, 32-04 Broadway, Astoria

Nintendo fans will square off during this annual tournament in Tecmo Super Bowl, the classic football video game. It costs $30 to join, and contestants can compete for a chance to win trophies and cash prizes. Registration starts at 10 a.m.

Fall Harvest Festival

Where: King Manor Museum, 150-03 Jamaica Ave., Jamaica

Bring your kids to this fall festival at King Manor Museum where they can watch an early American cooking demonstration and make crafts inspired by autumn. They will also learn how to churn butter and make apple cider. This free event welcomes families with children of all ages. It runs from noon until 3 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 18

Harvest Fest and Pumpkin Patch

Where: Queens Botanical Garden, 43-50 Main St., Flushing

Children will love this fun-filled afternoon featuring games, nature walks, bouncy houses, a petting zoo, pony rides and a pumpkin patch. The event will also offer something for their parents, including a beer tent and live bluegrass music. Admission is free for garden visitors (garden admission is $2 for students and children over 3, $4 for adults). It runs from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. 

► Happy Landmark Birthday Kingsland!

Where: Kingsland Homestead, 143-35 37th Ave., Flushing

Join the Landmarks Preservation Commission in commemorating the historic building which houses the Queens Historical Society being declared a landmark 50 years ago. It was the first landmark in Queens.

The free event, which runs from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., will feature guest speaker and LPC Commissioner Diana Chapin. RSVP is required as space is limited. For more information, call 718-939-0647 or email info@queenshistoricalsociety.org
