15-Year-Old Girl Shot in Face, Prosecutors Say

By Nicholas Rizzi | October 9, 2015 2:15pm

STATEN ISLAND — A man was arrested Friday for shooting a 15-year-old girl in the face, prosecutors said.

Torrie Smith, 20, was arrested for shooting the girl, whose name was not released, as she walked passed 806 Henderson Ave. in Port Richmond with a friend on April 12, police and prosecutors said.

The bullet grazed the girl's face and fractured her jaw, police and prosecutors said. She was treated at Richmond University Medical Center, police said.

A law enforcement source said the girl was hanging out with a large group of friends before she left them to walk with a single friend.

Smith, dressed in black, approached and started shooting from behind scaffolding.

The girl was not believed to be the intended target, sources said.

Smith was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon at his arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.

His bail was set at $50,000 bond, $35,000 cash, and he's due back in court on Thursday, according to court records.

Smith was also arrested in 2014 and charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance.

HIs lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
