STATEN ISLAND — A pregnant woman and another pedestrian were killed in separate car crashes on Staten Island Monday, police and reports said.

Steven Turetsky, 61, and Shannon Lies, 31, were both struck by cars, police said.

Lies, a waitress at the Mike's Place diner in Annadale, had finished her shift and was crossing Hylan Boulevard mid-block at the Arden Avenue intersection shortly after 11 p.m., according to police and PIX11.

She was hit by the driver of 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis that was headed southbound, police said.

Lies was taken to Staten Island University Hospital South, where she was pronounced dead.

Family and co-workers did not respond to a request for comment, but her manager at the eatery, Chris Egerci, told PIX11 that Lies was six months pregnant with a boy and worked six days a week to support her family.

"She was a very hardworking mom and all she thought about was her kids, the main priority." Egerci told PIX11. "She was a very, very sweet woman."

The 54-year-old female driver, who had no injuries, remained on the scene but no arrests have been made.

Farther down on Hylan Boulevard, Turetsky was struck and killed by a car at the Bay Street intersection at about 7:28 p.m., police said.

Turetsky was crossing from west to east on Bay Street, outside of the marked crosswalk, when the driver of a 2008 Honda Fit heading southbound in the left lane struck him with the front bumper, police said.

He was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The 73-year-old male driver, who was not injured, remained on the scene and was not charged, police said.

Turetsky and Lies were the third and fourth pedestrians struck and killed on Staten Island since August.
