Colossal Cats Storm Manhattan in New Run The Jewels Video

By Heidi Patalano | October 2, 2015 4:40pm | Updated on October 4, 2015 8:17pm

Rap group Run the Jewels wins the Internet.

Rapper duo Killer Mike and El-P released their first video for their remix album "Meow the Jewels" (more on that later) this week, featuring two giant cats wreaking havoc on a miniature New York City.

In the video posted by Mass Appeal Records, the city's defenses are rendered useless against the cats that swat at FDNY helicopters with their paws and roll on top of NYPD vehicles. Things escalate as the cats begin to shoot lasers out of their eyes.

"Meow the Jewels" — a remix of their 2014 "Run the Jewels 2" album — incorporates cat meows and purrs into each track. Song titles get a feline spin: "Jeopardy" is "Meowpurrdy," "Angel Duster" is "Angelsnuggler."

It's the result of a Kickstarter campaign started by an Arizona fan, which hoped to raise $44,000 and ended up raising $65,783.

Ridiculous? Sure. That's the point of the internet. El-P tweeted his feelings about the remix album:

Proceeds from "Meow the Jewels" will go to charities that benefit the victims of police violence.

The album is so beloved, Pitchfork had to forgo their decimal point rating system to give it simply a Cat With Heart Eyes emoji as its seal of approval.
