ARDEN HEIGHTS — Mayor Bill de Blasio helped workers on the Department of Transportation's late night shift repave a section of Arthur Kill Road on Wednesday night.
De Blasio — along with Borough President James Oddo, Assemblyman Joe Borelli and Assemblyman Michael Cusick — paid a visit to DOT workers who have been working on the stretch of road from Richmond Avenue to Bloomingdale Road a little after 10 p.m.
He put on a hard hat and laid down a section of new asphalt over Arthur Kill Road, near the intersection of Woodrow Road, and told workers he made the visit to show his appreciation for their hard work.
In May, de Blasio announced the city would boost the resurfacing budget by $242 million to help fix crumbling streets. He said the funds should allow the city to fix 2,500 miles of street by 2017.
"I understand very humanely the problems of potholes in the city and what it does to our cars," de Blasio said at the time.
"We're adamant about trying to not only fill the potholes quickly — and I think DOT's doing an outstanding job at doing all they need to do in the short term — but getting ahead of the problems and fixing the problem on a bigger level with repaving."
