UPPER EAST SIDE — If Pope Francis wanted to grab dinner or a late-night snack in the neighborhood around the E. 72nd Street townhouse where he's staying during his brief visit to New York, there aren't that many options.
Still, there are a few eateries around that offer French, Italian and American cuisine.
DNAinfo New York asked restaurants what they'd serve Pope Francis if he'd happen to stroll in one night.
► Three Guys Restaurant, 960 Madison Ave., between 75th and 76th streets
Salmon, either boiled Greek style of on top of a green salad.
"I never thought about it," said manager Loula Bellas, laughing. "Our best thing is salmon."
Three Guys is a diner that serves a slew of entrees from salads to breakfast omlettes to filet mignon and burgers.
Server Nikolas Katsaros agreed with Bellas's selection saying it would be fresh and healthy.
"It's good even for the pope," he said.
► Via Quadronno, 25 E. 73rd St. near Madison Avenue
Espresso.
"It's what we're famous for," said manager Natalí Lam. "Living in Italy, I assume he'd appreciate it."
Via Quadronno is a little Italian restaurant and offers cuisine like linguine and branzino.
► Le Charlot, 19 E. 69th St. at Madison Avenue
Cajun Mahi Mahi with grapefruit-lime sauce over couscous.
Le Charlot regular Daniel Bocly suggested what he felt would be the best dish on the menu for the pope — the Cajun Mahi Mahi and the heart of palm to start. The restaurant's chef, who did not want to be named, agreed.
Employees suggested he pair with a glass of wine, too, called Château L'Evangile.
Le Charlot is a small French restaurant located southeast of the Pope's New York City abode.
