CHARLESTON — A movie theater with a rooftop bar will be part of a new shopping plaza headed to Staten Island's South Shore.

The 55,000-square-foot dine-in theater is expected to have between 12 and 16 screens.

It is the first tenant announced for the proposed Riverside Galleria plaza near the Outerbridge Crossing on Arthur Kill Road, according to leasing agent Casandra Properties.

"The opportunity to open a new theater at Riverside Galleria is exciting for us because we will be able to provide residents with a dine-in theater concept that will be unique to Staten Island," said Gregg Scarola, co-owner of the new theater who also operates The Atrium in Great Kills.

The 470,000-square-foot Riverside Galleria will include retail stores, restaurants and cafes when it opens in 2017, according to developers Melohn Properties.

Plans include a waterfront park — with new connections for cars and pedestrians to the water — and a wetland and nature preserve, according to Melohn.
