JACKSON HEIGHTS — Longtime activists, civic groups and businesses selected by the community will be honored later this month at the revamped “Good Neighbor” awards gala sponsored by the Jackson Heights Beautification Group.

The awards weren’t handed out last year, but the group said it wanted to relaunch the celebration to "honor people who are working to make Jackson Heights a greener place, a friendlier place, a more art-filled place,” the group’s president, Len Maniace, told DNAinfo New York.

Since then, the group received more than three dozen nominations, he said.

Winners include Sergio Lamarque, who gives free tennis lessons at Travers Park; Delhi Heights, for its restoration and renovation; Espresso 77, for being not just a coffee shop but a center for arts in the community; and Gloria Daini, who founded the Queensborough Houses Association.

They’ll all be feted at a celebration Sept. 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church.

Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and the event is catered by Armondo’s, with wine, music, raffles and more.

They can be purchased online or at Espresso 77, Table Wine, and the Travers Park Greenmarket on Sundays.
