Jamaica Food Festival to Highlight Local Flavors and Craft Beers

QUEENS —  A food festival will showcase the best eats in downtown Jamaica in an effort to highlight the neighborhood’s offerings.

"Brew & Chew," scheduled for this Thursday, will feature live music and present food from a variety of restaurants in the neighborhood.

With a $5 ticket, guests will be able to sample all kinds of dishes from about 10 local eateries and food stands, including Healthy Henry, CityRib, Sangria Tapas Bar & Restaurant, Rincon Salavadoreno, Asian Dumplings and Maima’s Liberian Bistro.

For an additional $20, attendees will also get to try unlimited beer samples from eight craft breweries, such as Sixpoint, Blue PointSmuttynose, Magic Hat, the Bronx Brewery and Rockaway.

“A growing Downtown Jamaica not only means more jobs, residents and visitors, it means more choices for fine dining and entertainment,” said Hope Knight, president of the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, which hosts the event. “Brew and Chew provides an opportunity to sample those choices in a fun setting at an affordable price.”

“Brew and Chew” will take place Thursday, Sept. 17, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Harvest Room, 90-04 160th St. Rain date: Sept. 18. Food tasting — $5 per person (free with college ID). Unlimited beer samples —$20 per person. Food tasting and unlimited beer samples — $25 per person.
