By  Nicholas Rizzi and Anton K. Nilsson | September 4, 2015 4:42pm | Updated on September 4, 2015 5:44pm

MIDTOWN — Five people were injured on Friday afternoon after a tree fell on them in Bryant Park, the FDNY said.

Emergency officials responded to the park at about 3:58 p.m. and treated five people for minor injuries, a spokesman for the FDNY said.

Four of them were taken to Bellevue Hospital and another to New York Hospital, the FDNY said. All of them had minor injuries.

Carlos Pena, 63, from Long Island, was playing his daily chess game in the park when the tree snapped and hit into his opponent's head, hip and foot.

"He didn't have time to move, but I heard it and moved," Pena said. "My pieces flew everywhere."

Ossie Haith, 35, from Harlem, was standing near the tree when it fell and said it trapped the chess players foot under it.

"It was like fireworks but louder," said Haith. "It all happened so fast."
