GREAT KILLS — A woman was arrested after prosecutors said she gave herself a raise and stole more than $20,000 from the doctor's office where she worked.

The 46-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly paying herself an extra $22,381.16 from January until July while working in the payroll department of the Spine and Pain Institute of New York, at 1534 Victory Blvd., prosecutors said.

After she was arrested, the woman told police that she thought she was to be given a raise, and put one in for herself without notifying her bosses.

"There was no raise that was officially given to me, but none of my raises were official," she told police, according to court papers. "I manually put that in. It's my fault. I wish I could pay them back, I'm sorry."

The woman was charged with grand larceny, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property at her arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney.

She was released without bail and is due back in court on Oct. 21.

Her lawyer declined to comment for this story.
