Shots Fired on Street with Violent History as Police Search for Victim

By Katie Honan | August 25, 2015 3:33pm

JACKSON HEIGHTS — An unidentified man was shot but fled the scene on a street prone to violence Sunday night, police said.

Five to six shots were fired in front of 37-55 90th St. at around 7:00 p.m. on Aug. 23, according to police.

A man in his 30s was seen firing shots, but it's not clear who he was targeting, according to the NYPD.

Police said there was at least one victim, but he fled the scene.  Officers were searching local hospitals for him, officials said.

The block, between 37th and Roosevelt avenues, has struggled to combat gang violence, according to police.

And at least three people have been killed on or near the block since 2013.

Ever Orozco, 69, was stabbed to death near the 90th Street-Elmhurst Ave. 7 train station in 2013, the NYPD said.

Steven Shimabuku, 25, was fatally stabbed near 90th Street and 37th Avenue on Dec. 19, 2014 days before another man was shot to death on the same corner.

William Avila, of East Elmhurst, was arrested in March for Shimabuku's death, police said

In April, another man was shot in a botched robbery attempt on 90th Street, according to the NYPD.
