"Taiwan: A World of Orchids"

Where: Queens Botanical Garden; 43-50 Main St., Flushing
When: Aug. 21-23; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

Check out this amazing display of more than 250 moth orchids in different shapes and colors, shipped from Taiwan. The show will be accompanied by a site specific arts program, including dance performances and live music. The event will end with an orchid sale on Sunday, beginning at 5:15 p.m. Free with garden admission ($4 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for students). For more information, visit their website. 

The UNFringed Festival

Where: The Secret Theatre, 44-02 23rd St., Long Island City
When: Various showtimes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

This annual theater festival features “bold and daring new works,” according to organizers, and will take place at various showtimes throughout this weekend and next. Plays that will be featured this weekend include “How to Howl,” which follows a group of teenage friends in northern New Jersey and “Inspector Descending,” about a Russian detective assigned to a murder case. Tickets to shows are $18 and can be purchased here.

Friday, Aug. 21

Flushing Night Out

Where: Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing
When: 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Check out the second Flushing Night Out of the summer. During this night market local entrepreneurs will offer food, crafts and entertainment. Queens-born rapper Awkwafina will perform, and it's free to enter. Check out their website for more information. 

Saturday, Aug. 22

Hands-On History: Hoops, Sticks & Whirligigs!

Where: King Manor Museum in Rufus King Park, bet. 150th and 153rd streets, Jamaica
When: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Learn about how kids played in the 19th century and play several historic games. Children will roll hoops, play a historic game of catch known as graces and make their own toys to take home. For more information, visit their website. 

"Laughter Is The Best Medicine...Take 2"

Where: Queens Theatre, 14 United Nations Ave. S., Flushing Meadows Corona Park
When: Auction kicks off at 6:30 p.m., the show starts at 7 p.m.

This comedy show and auction starring Gilbert Gottfried is a fundraising effort for the cash-strapped Forest Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps, which has served Forest Hills and Rego Park for more than four decades. Tickets are $40 and $50 and can be purchased online, in person at Queens Theatre Box Office and by phone: 718-760-0064.

LIC Block Party

Where: SculptureCenter, Purves Street and Jackson Avenue, Long Island City
When: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Join SculptureCenter and the Purves Street Block Association for its annual summer block party, featuring live music, an artists’ market and food from local restaurants like Manducatis Rustica and Doughnut Plant. The event is free, and more information is available on their website. 

► Mykki Blanco at Riis Park Bazaar

Where: Riis Park Concessions, Neponsit
When: 12 p.m.

Mykki Blanco headlines this free show at the Riis Park Bazaar, which also includes Princess Nokia and L S D X O X O. The first act goes on at noon, and the show is sponsored by Time Out New York.

Sunday, August 23

Moderate Hike at Cunningham Park

Where: Cunningham Park, Union Turnpike and 197th Street, Fresh Meadows
When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hike around Cunningham Park with Urban Park Rangers, who will introduce you to various plants and animals that live in the urban forest. Bring comfortable shoes or boots, and pack water and a light snack for this moderate hike. Hikers meet at Cunningham Park Parking Lot. More information on their website. 

Community Bike Sale    

Where: Recycle-A-Bicycle, 46-01 5th St., Long Island City
When: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Get a new ride at Recycle-A-Bicycle’s Community Bike Sale, which will feature bikes refurbished its Summer Youth Employment students. Helmets, locks, baskets and other bike accessories will also be sold. Proceeds go to Recycle-A-Bicycle’s youth programs.

The Magic of Rogue at Fantasy Forest Amusement Park

Where: Fantasy Forest, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park
When: 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Magician Rogue mixes comedy with magic, and appears in this Queens amusement park fresh off of an appearance on Americas Got Talent. The show features music, flowers, fire and animals, and is guaranteed to keep everyone entertained.
