QUEENS — A new massive supermarket offering more than 50,000 items and featuring a food court and party room, is slated to open in downtown Jamaica this Thursday, the owners said.

The 28,000-square-foot Green Apple Supermarket, at 92-25 Guy Brewer Blvd., between Jamaica and Archer avenues, will also feature large sections with fresh produce, meat and seafood.

There are several supermarkets in the neighborhood including a Key Food on Jamaica Avenue, but store manager Les Agius insisted there is nothing like that in the area.

“Everybody has grocery [item] but what makes us different is our large produce department,” he said.

The store will also feature a 5,000-square-foot food court with 10 stations serving various cuisines including Mexican, Jamaican and Chinese, as well as teriyaki, sushi, burgers and halal. A separate section will be used to serve breakfast items.

“We want to cater to the local community,” Agius noted, adding that the store will also take customer suggestions into consideration to offer what they want.

The store also boasts a 2,000-square-foot party room. The space will be available for free for those ordering catering from the store’s food court, according to Ricky Chung, who runs the food court.

The supermarket, Agius said, will be open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The store was built as part of a development planned for the property on the corner of Archer Avenue and Guy Brewer Boulevard bought for $22 million last October by Chris Xu.

Xu, a Flushing-based developer, also intends to demolish a nearby garage, adjacent to the supermarket, and replace it with market-rate housing that would feature several hundred apartments.

The owners are also planning to open another Green Apple Supermarket on 21st Street in Long Island City, Agius said.
