PARK SLOPE — A fancy bike worth as much as the car it was sitting in got stolen last week, police said.

A racing bike worth $8,000 was stolen out of a 2010 Honda Fit parked on President Street near Seventh Avenue, according to a police report.

The theft happened on Aug. 3, when the 30-year-old victim left his Cannondale CAAD10 in the trunk of his Honda overnight. The victim told police he wasn't sure if the trunk had been locked.

The Cannondale CAAD10 retails for up to $4,300, but the victim listed its value as $8,000 in the police report. Bicycles can increase significantly in value when riders outfit them with high-end extras.

The estimated value of a 2010 Honda Fit in good condition is about $8,000, according to the Kelley Blue Book car pricing guide.
