WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Two teenage bystanders were injured this weekend in a shooting in a Washington Heights park, police said.

A 19-year-old old man was shot in the leg and a 17-year-old girl was struck in the buttocks shortly after midnight on Sunday, Aug. 9, in Fort Washington Park, the NYPD said.

Both victims were transported to area hospitals in stable condition, officials said.

The incident occurred near the intersection of West 158th Street and the Henry Hudson Parkway, police said.

Authorities do not believe that either victim was the intended target of the shooting, they said. They believe the shooting was related to a dispute that occurred earlier in the evening at the park, police said.

Police did not have any information regarding suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.

While crime is down by about 7 percent in the 33rd Precinct so far this year compared to the same time in 2014, shootings are on the rise.

There were six shooting incidents from Jan. 1 through Aug. 2 this year, compared to zero for the same time period last year, NYPD data shows.
