UPPER WEST SIDE — A 14-foot branch broke off a tree next to the American Museum of Natural History Friday and came crashing to the ground.
The leafy branch snapped from a large tree on the south side of the museum, along West 77th Street between Columbus and Central Park West, shortly after 8:30 a.m.
No one was injured in the incident.
The branch fell inside Theodore Roosevelt Park, which surrounds the museum and is not accessible to the public, a Parks Department spokeswoman said. However, museum and park workers do have access to that section of the park.
"That was scary," remarked one woman, who was surprised that the branch fell on its own and was not cut down by workers.
The branch did not cause any damage, and it will be cleaned up by the end of the weekend, the spokeswoman added.
The American Museum of Natural History deferred questions to the Parks Department, which owns the property.
