UPTOWN — Crime has gone up in Inwood and parts of Washington Heights over the past month, led by a 35 percent increase in felony assaults this year, NYPD data shows.

In the 34th Precinct, there were 104 major crimes between June 29 to July 26, compared to 87 for the preceding 28-day period, from May 25 to June 21, according to NYPD data.

In addition, crime was up by nearly 11 percent compared to the same time period last year, when there were 94 major crimes, data shows.

There were 25 felony assaults during the most recent 28-day period, compared to 15 for the same time last year, according to the data.

One of those incidents was a double-shooting on St. Nicholas Avenue near West 192nd Street on July 23. Police arrested a 21-year-old man on July 29 and charged him with first-degree assault in the non-fatal incident.

The recent increase in felony assaults is part of a larger trend in the precinct.
