FORT GEORGE — Two people were shot on St. Nicholas Avenue near West 192nd Street Thursday night, officials said.

The shooting took place in front of 1632 St. Nicholas Ave. at roughly 9 p.m. after a dispute broke out nearby, officials said.

A 24-year-old woman was shot on the left side of her chest and treated and released from New York Presbyterian Hospital, police said.

A 32-year-old man had gunshot wounds to the front and back of his left thigh. He walked into St. Barnabas hospital, where he was treated and released, according to authorities.

Police do not believe that either victim was the intended target of the shooting. There was no information available on a suspect, police said.

This is not the first shooting on this stretch of St. Nicholas Avenue in recent months.

In October 2014, Orlando Rivera was fatally shot on St. Nicholas Avenue near West 193rd Street as he stepped out of his apartment to go to the store.

The number of shooting incidents in the 34th Precinct has remained steady though, with four so far this year, not including this most recent incident, and four for the same time period in 2014.

But the number of shooting victims has risen with seven so far in 2015 compared to four victims for the same time period in 2014. The increase is linked to a triple shooting that occurred on West 207th Street over the past Memorial Day weekend.
