NEW YORK CITY — After days of blistering heat, torrential rain walloped New York City Thursday afternoon and sent pedestrians ducking for cover, according to social media posts.
The National Weather Service warned of flash floods for parts of Queens, Manhattan and The Bronx between 2:40 p.m. and 4:30 p.m and cautioned drivers in particular with the following message:
"TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS. MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES"
New Yorkers took to social media from beneath awnings and scaffolding to capture the epic rain.
