Hey ladies, and guys — if you're a Beastie Boys fan turn on Seattle radio station KEXP today and listen to a 12-hour analysis of "Paul's Boutique."
KEXP is devoting an entire day of programming to the Beastie's second release, which came out on July 25, 1989. DJs will play every track on the album, as well as the numerous songs that were sampled on the groundbreaking work.
Considered a commercial flop when it came out, "Paul's Boutique" is now widely considered one of the best albums of the 1980s and among the best of all time.
It brought the world songs such as "Hey Ladies," "Egg Man" and "Shadrach." Its cover featured the Lower East Side corner of Ludlow and Rivington, which locals once tried to rename in honor of the hip-hop trio.
Listen now — KEXP's homage to the classic album can't be podcast "due to licensing," the radio station said on Twitter, but the program will be streamed in the KEXP archive for the next two weeks.
