EAST HARLEM — Summer block parties are coming back to Museum Mile in leaps and bounds.

"Uptown Bounce," a series of outdoor parties thrown by the City Museum of New York and El Museo del Barrio, will bring free live music, art workshops, special exhibits, food trucks and a bar every Wednesday for the next four weeks to the blocks between 103rd and 105th streets, from 6 to 9 p.m.

“Uptown Bounce was a tremendous success last summer,” said Susan Henshaw Jones, the director of the City Museum. “It was a real New York City block party.”

During the kickoff session Wednesday, El Museo del Barrio will open their “Young Lords” exhibit which looks into the political movement’s influence in East Harlem, the Bronx and the Lower East Side.

They will also have an interactive exhibit in their courtyard called “Pick It!” where people can create signs and protest whatever they want.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors for evenings filled with arts, music, food, and of course some dance,” said El Museo director Jorge Daniel Veneciano.

Down the street at the City Museum, DJs will spin disco hits on vinyl 45s and artists will create chalk are on the sidewalk.

While the event is free, participants are required to register.

Highlights from future “Uptown Bounce” parties include live performances by MC Grandmaster Caz and b-boy crew Dynamic Rockers on July 29 and a screening of a 1970’s documentary about the Young Lords in East Harlem on August 5.
