BROOKLYN — A man was sitting with his girlfriend in a car in Flatbush Wednesday morning when another car drove up alongside and its occupant fatally shot him, police said.

There were no immediate arrests, police said.

Adetunji Ajakaye, 25, was in the driver's seat of a black BMW at East 17th Street and Newkirk Avenue about 12:49 a.m. when the white car pulled up beside and its occupant shot the driver four times, an NYPD spokesman said.

"I heard [the] shots, one after another. They actually didn't sound that powerful," said Kevin Lewis, 40, who lives nearby.

Lewis ran outside to see the bullet-ridden BMW.

"The driver's side window was shattered. There was a young lady in the car. She was very scared. She was crying. She was hysterical," he said.

Medical crews arrived and started working on Ajakaye, Lewis said.

"They took him out of the car. His red sneakers were on the ground. He was covered with blood. They were doing chest compressions," he said.

Ajakaye, of who lives in the neighborhood, was later pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital, police said.

His 21-year-old girlfriend was not injured, police said.
