CROWN HEIGHTS — A man spewing anti-gay vitriol punched a gay man in the face during an unprovoked attack in the neighborhood earlier this month, prosecutors said — one of three hate crimes that took place in Crown Heights within a single week.

The assault happened at the corner of Eastern Parkway and Franklin Avenue at about 8 a.m. on July 6, when 29-year-old Luois Lloyd [sic] punched a 34-year-old openly gay man in the face as the victim walked to work.

As he hit the man, Lloyd said, “I am tired of you gay [expletive] staring at me and following me,” according to the seven-count indictment against Lloyd released by prosecutors on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old suffered jaw pain and swelling after the incident, which happened on the first day of a new job, he told prosecutors.

Lloyd, of Crown Heights, was arrested soon after the assault and has been charged with third-degree assault as a hate crime, among other charges. He faces one to three years in prison if convicted of the top charge.

The attack at Eastern Parkway and Franklin Avenue happened on the same day a transgender woman was threatened with death by a group of men outside her building near Kingston and Lefferts avenues in Crown Heights.

And it came a week after a June 30 attack on a 36-year-old man who was bashed in the head with a rock, spit on and called anti-gay slurs by a group of six people on Utica Avenue and Carroll Street, police said.

Two people were arrested in connection to the rock attack, prosecutors said. Safire Ellington, 18, and Leroy Bacchus, 33. Both of them were issued temporary orders of protection and released without bail, according to court documents.

Lloyd is being held on $3,000 bail or bond, court documents show. His next court date is Oct. 9.
