BOERUM HILL — A woman bit and tried to burn a Rite Aid employee with a cigarette lighter after attempting to steal almost $100 worth of vitamins, police and prosecutors said.

Saajidah Abdul-Rahim, 34, was trying to steal bottles of vitamins worth $99 from the Rite Aid at 182 Smith St. when she was confronted by a store employee July 8 at roughly 11:45 a.m., according to a police report and the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.

Abdul-Rahim bit the worker on his finger while trying to flee, according to the criminal complaint. She then tried to burn him with the lighter, the DA's office said. The employee suffered a cut and bruising on his finger, the criminal complaint said.

This is not the first time a Rite Aid employee at the location has been bitten. In 2013, a thief sunk his teeth into a guard before fleeing with four shampoo bottles.

Abdul-Rahim was arrested and charged with attempted robbery, assault, menancing, criminal possession of stolen property, among other charges, the DA's office said.

Eleven bottles of vitamins were recovered, according to police.

Attorney information for Abdul-Rahim was not immediately available. Rite Aid did not immediately respond to request for comment.
