EAST WILLIAMSBURG — Thirteen people were arrested at two public housing complexes on Wednesday — with thousands of dollars worth of heroin and crack cocaine recovered, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.

Police arrested six men, ages 20 to 52, for sale and possession of controlled substances after the DA's office issued a search warrant for homes in the Bushwick Houses and Borinquen Plaza housing, the DA's office said.

An additional seven men who were present during the search, ages 18 to 56, were arrested for drug possession.

Police have been investigating drug sales in the two housing projects since October, after complaints of drug activity.

Undercover officers made 27 drug purchases in the last year, including heroin, marijuana and crack-cocaine, according to the DA's office.

In the search, police found 69 glassine envelopes of heroin, up to 10 grams of crack-cocaine and more than $2,000 at a location in Bushwick Houses. They also found nearly 50 grams of heroin at another location in Bushwick Houses, the DA's office said.

It was not clear whether the drug sales of the six arrested men were part of an organized effort.

The men face between one year and nine years in prison, and more people are expected to be arrested as part of an ongoing investigation, the DA's office said.

The arrests are part of District Attorney Ken Thompson's larger effort with the NYPD to take down drug traffickers in public housing. In the last year, more than 50 people have been charged.

"We will not allow hard-working people to be held hostage by violent gangs and drug dealers who operate in their midst and these arrests will bring a measure of safety to residents in these housing developments," Thompson said in a statement.

The arrested men are awaiting arraignment.
