TRIBECA — The "Ghostbusters" headquarters has gotten an updated look — and we're not talking about the new, all-female movie on the way.
TriBeCa's famed Ladder 8 firehouse — used as the headquarters for the ghoul hunting troupe in the classic 1984 comedy — has an updated Ghostbusters emblem painted on the sidewalk outside its 12 N. Moore Street firehouse.
The fire company also updated its own patch with the new emblem, which features a large white ghost, an FDNY spokesman said. The older logo on the sidewalk remains, and even got a new paint job.
Fire companies often have their own self-designed logos that represent something about their house.
Despite the exterior updates, the firehouse is still slated for a gut renovation that will close the firehouse for an estimated three years. An FDNY spokesman said a date for the closure was not yet set, though a firefighter with the company told DNAinfo New York that they've heard it may close in September. A temporary home for Ladder 8 has not been decided on yet.
As far as the new emblem goes, a firefighter told us that the new patch had nothing to do with the movie reboot — which will star comedians including Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy as a team of all-female proton pack slingers.
"Some of us just wanted to update the look," said the firefighter, who asked not to be identified.
According to reports, the new movie is now filming in Boston and an FDNY spokesman said he was not aware of any plans to use the firehouse in the film.
