HARLEM — To avoid a repeat of last week’s prisoner escape, the NYPD is leg shackling anyone arrested for murder, attempted murder or other serious crimes.

Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce announced the shift Wednesday, a week after Tareek Arnold, 23, beat up an officer and escaped custody while being transported from the 32nd Precinct to Manhattan Central Booking, a police spokesman said.

Surveillance video shows two officers running after Arnold, who had his hands cuffed behind his back. He had been arrested for shooting a man four times on June 8, police said.

The NYPD also upped the reward for any information leading to Arnold’s arrest Wednesday from $2,500 to $12,500.

Arnold, who has tattoos that say “Troll” and “Militant Soldier,” has been arrested six times for weapon possession, selling marijuana, and forgery, according to the NYPD.

He remains at large.
