Since 2008, Films on the Green — a free outdoor French film festival produced annually in New York City parks — has brought classic and contemporary French cinema to New Yorkers. This evening at Tompkins Square Park catch “Hors de Prix” (Priceless), a 2006 comedy starring Audrey Tautou. Free. From 8:30 p.m. — get there early to picnic and listen to music selected by WNYU radio DJs. Avenues A & East 7th street, East Village.

For the first time, nine decades of master illustrator Al Hirschfeld’s (1903–2003) work will be on display at the New-York Historical Society. The Hirschfeld Century: The Art of Al Hirschfeld, is a multimedia exhibit featuring the art that defined New York popular culture and made the 1900s The Hirschfeld Century. The exhibition features more than 100 original works including many highlights from the New York Times — where he was a contributor for more than seven decades. New-York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West, at Richard Gilder Way (77th Street). 11 a.m to 8 p.m., $19.

Coney Island's Mermaid Parade, the colorful procession invented by artists in 1983, is a celebration of ancient aquatic mythology and the honky-tonk rituals of the seaside. Unlike most parades, this one has no ethnic, religious or commercial aims, but expect to see quirky mermaids and sea creatures, antique cars, floats and performers and lots of wearable art. The action starts at 1 p.m., moving east along Surf Avenue from West 21st Street; turning south on West 10th Street and then heading back west along the boardwalk, ending in front of MCU Park.

At the Bronx Summer Fest on the Boulevard enjoy outdoor festivities on a car-free street as WHEDco and the Bronx Music Heritage Center shut down the traffic for live performances, face painting, games, free health screenings, arts activities and lots more. Louis Nine Blvd, between Southern Blvd. and Intervale Ave., Foxhurst, the Bronx.

Sunday, June 21
Celebrate the longest day of the year with Make Music New York, a unique festival of more than 1,000 free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City. From 10 a.m.to 10 p.m., musicians of all persuasions — from hip hop to opera, Latin jazz to punk rock — perform on streets, sidewalks, stoops, plazas, cemeteries, parks and gardens. Find out who is playing near you by checking out this music map.

New York City’s Pride Week commemorates the Stonewall Riots of 1969, the beginning of the modern Gay Rights movement. Pride Week events include a march (12 p.m. on June 28, begins at 36th St. & Fifth Ave., ends at Christopher & Greenwich Streets), the Rally (June 26, Hudson River Park), PrideFest (June 28), Family Movie Night (June 23), and dance parties on Manhattan’s West Side piers (June 28). Pride Week’s theme for 2015,  “Complete the Dream,”  was chosen by the organizers to honor the dreams of all people seeking liberation from injustice. Check out the full week's schedule here.
