All Weekend:

The Typewriter Project

Where: Tompkins Square Park, East Village

Park visitors can record their thoughts and observations inside a wooden booth outfitted with a seat, desk and typewriter every day until July 19. The booth is part of the Typewriter Project, a site-specific literary installation. Missives written within the structure will be collected, stored and then posted online for users to read, share and comment on. Free. Saturday-Sunday from Noon to 8 p.m. and Monday-Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

River to River Festival

The River to River festival, now in its 14th year, brings a host of eclectic performances to Lower Manhattan, with daily events, many of which take place outside, along the downtown waterfront and Governors Island. Music, theater, dance and art shows are scheduled for 11 days, from June 18 through June 28. All events are free.

Friday, June 19

Caribbean Flow Friday

Where: Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at 515 Malcolm X Blvd. in Harlem

Harlem’s research center will be transformed into a yoga studio and dance party Friday night. Events include fitness lessons, Soca dance classes, and an after party. $10. 7 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Screening of “Pink Sari Gang”

Where: Word Up Community Bookshop at 2113 Amsterdam Ave. in Washington Heights

This documentary explores the Gulabi Gang, a 10,000 woman-strong movement in India developed in response to widespread domestic abuse and other violence against women. The screening will be followed by a discussion. Free. 6 to 9 p.m.

Saturday, June 20

2nd Annual Romance Literary Festival

Where: Morris-Jumel Mansion at 65 Jumel Terrace in Washington Heights

Meet some of New York’s best-selling romance authors, including Lauren Willig and Maya Rodale. There will be readings, panel discussions, book signings and live music by These Machines. Also take a tour of the museum, the site of many romantic rendezvous from days gone by. Free with $10 admission to the museum. 1 to 4 p.m.

Make Your Own Terrrarium

Where: 324a Columbus Ave. in the Upper West Side

Luludi Living Art is leading a class in how to design and create your own terrarium at its new Upper West Side store. $85, or $65 with this Groupon. 10 to 11 a.m.

Poochie Couture

Where: Zoomies NYC at 434 Hudson St. in the West Village

Animal Lighthouse Rescue is holding an adoption event that they’re calling “Poochie Couture” at the upscale pet goods store Zoomies NYC on Hudson Street from noon to 5 p.m. ALR rescues street dogs from Puerto Rico, rehabilitates them and then fosters them in homes across the city until they find their “furever” home. They’ll be bringing seven dogs, all small or medium-sized between the ages of six months and five years old. Free.

Open Gardening in Christopher Park

Where: Christopher Park, across from Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street in the West Village

Community volunteers will weed, plant annuals, and spread mulch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to “spruce up Christopher Park for next week’s Gay Pride celebrations.” Gloves, trowels and plants will be provided. Free.

Sunday, June 21

Harlem One Mile Race

Where: Marcus Garvey Park at 18 Mt Morris Park W. in Harlem

A Father’s Day race/jog/walk/skip/shuffle around the park. The race precedes the annual Father’s Day Bike Race around the park. $25 for adults, $10 for children. 9:30 a.m.

Vendy Plaza Gay Pride Celebration

Where: Park Avenue between 115th and 116th Street in East Harlem

Vendy Plaza is celebrating Gay Pride week with live music, food and a beer garden at the makeshift plaza under the Metro North train tracks in La Marqueta. Free. Noon to 6 p.m.

Scandinavian Music Festival

Where: Billings Lawn, Fort Tryon Park in Inwood

Musicians from the Scandia Symphony will perform three concerts in Fort Tryon Park. The artists will also teach the audience about the music, culture and traditions of Scandinavia. The June 21 concert will feature a brass quartet performing both traditional and contemporary compositions, including the national anthems of the five Scandinavian countries. Free. 2 p.m.

‘Concerto for Buildings’

Where: Greene Street between Broome and Grand streets in the Lower East Side

A string orchestra and 24 percussionists will take over Greene Street, using the iconic SoHo cast-iron buildings as instruments in a musical ode to the city’s architecture. The musicians come from two local youth ensembles, Face the Music and Mantra Youth Percussion, and the performance is part of the Make Music New York festival. Make Music New York will hold more than 1,000 free concerts across the city on Sunday. Free. 2 to 5 p.m.
