JACKSON HEIGHTS — The public hearing for a planned four-story addition on top of a building in the neighborhood's historic district has been postponed to July, an official said.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission was originally scheduled to hear from the owners of 84-11 through 84-23 37th Ave. on June 16, but it has been pushed to July 7, according to a spokeswoman.

It's not clear why the meeting has been postponed.

The owners of the building want to build a four-story residential addition on top of the ground-floor stores, and would need LPC approval to do so.

The proposal has already been voted down five times by the community board over the last two years, but this is the first time the owners will go before the LPC, according to Howard Weiss, the lawyer for Charlie Patel, the building's owner.

On April 17 the plan was unanimously rejected by Community Board 3, which said another residential building on the avenue would change the character of the neighborhood.
