MTA Releases Retro Animated Video to Explain Subway Delays

By Trevor Kapp | June 9, 2015 1:33pm

The MTA has released a new 80s-style video explaining how service disruptions can impact an entire subway line.

The nearly two-minute animation, titled “A Subway Delay Story,” resembles a “Frogger”-type videogame and shows how large service gaps arise if a straphanger gets sick.

“Gaps in service cause platform crowding that creates longer dwells for trains in stations,” one caption reads. “But we can take action to close the gap… The train ahead of the gap can be held. The gap is split, reducing dwells and crowding.”

The video has received more than 112,000 YouTube views.
