CARROLL GARDENS — Local favorite Cubana Cafe is reopening this summer with a new daily brunch menu, according to the eatery's consulting chef.

The decade-old restaurant at 272 Smith St. was rumored to have closed after it was spotted shuttered and boarded up earlier this year.

But the space was undergoing a major renovation that will soon be unveiled, said Jean-Luc, the consulting chef of Cubana Cafe and owner of nearby Cafe Luluc, who declined to give his last name.

Jean-Luc said he has been assisting Cubana owner Danforth Houle with the new restaurant. A sign on its bright blue storefront notes that it will be reopening "soon."

Cubana Cafe is slated to reopen at the end of June or early July.

While there will be no significant changes to the food and drink options, a brunch menu will be served every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The menu will feature American favorites, like pancakes and eggs, but with Latin flavors.
