6 Things to Do in Queens Neighborhoods This Weekend

 Check out the LIC Bike Parade or celebrate the anniversaries of the World Fairs at a festival this weekend.

Saturday, June 6

► LIC Bike Parade

Where: Socrates Sculpture Park, 32-01 Vernon Blvd., Long Island City

Join other neighborhood cyclists for this family-friendly event at Socrates Sculpture Park. Kids will be able to decorate their bikes at workshops led by Socrates' artists. They can also score a free helmet from the Department of Transportation (from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). There will also be a kid's bike swap with Recycle-a-Bicycle from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and riding lessons from Bike NY in nearby Rainey Park between noon and 2 p.m. The parade will start at 3 p.m. and head along Vernon Boulevard, ending at Queensbridge Park.

► Pop Up Repair at the Sunnyside Greenmarket

Where: Sunnyside Greenmarket, Skillman Avenue and 42nd Street

Traveling repair service Pop Up Repair will debut in Queens for the first time, fixing residents' broken household items at the Sunnyside Greenmarket. People will be able to drop off items for repair and pick them up at the greenmarket on the 13th or 20th. Customers will be given an estimate for the cost of repairing an item when they bring it in, and a $10 deposit is required. Pop Up Repair will be at the Sunnyside Greenmarket from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

► “Walk the Watershed” as part of National Trails Day

Where: From Union Turnpike to Fort Totten

Take a seven-mile walk from Union Turnpike to Fort Totten in celebration of National Trails Day. The route, which leads through the historic Vanderbilt Motor Parkway trail and the Joe Michaels Bikeway, is not difficult, but the walk will take over 7 hours. Walkers may join for the entire walk, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or may exit at selected points. A lunch break and rest stop are scheduled for noon at the Alley Pond Environmental Center. Pre-registration is required. Sign-in will take place at the Alley Pond Park House (Winchester Blvd, near Union Turnpike).

Sunday, June 7

 World's Fair Anniversary Festivals

Where: Flushing Meadows-Corona Park

Celebrate the anniversaries of the 1939-40 and 1964-65 World Fairs, which were held in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, at a festival which will run from 1 to 6 p.m. Guides will be offering tours of historic sites at the park and memorabilia will be on display. Kids can ride the carousel for half-off and there will be puppet shows, face painting and live performances throughout the day.

► Annual Queens Pride Parade

Where: Starts on 37th Avenue and 89th Avenue. Festival will be held on 75th Street, Jackson Heights

The 23rd annual parade featuring as grand marshal, Mayor Bill de Blasio, the first mayor to ever serve in that role. After the parade, there's a big street festival and live music from legend Ce Ce Peniston. The parade starts at noon.

► Civil War Reenactment at Maple Grove Cemetery

Where: Maple Grove Cemetery at 127-15 Kew Gardens Rd., Kew Gardens

Maple Grove Cemetery will be transformed into a Civil War camp to mark the 150th anniversary of the war's end. Members of the NY26th Regiment United States Colored Troops reenactors will be dressed up in Civil War uniforms and will talk about what life was like for soldiers during the war. There will be a parade with the Color Guard as well as a mock recruitment station and handkerchief doll workshop for children. The free event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
