CROWN HEIGHTS — Chavela’s is gearing up for summer with new outdoor seating.
The Mexican restaurant's plan to put 22 seats outside got unanimous approval from Community Board 8's liquor license and sidewalk cafe review committee Monday night.
The new seating will wrap along the sidewalks on both sides of the restaurant, located at 736 Franklin Ave. near Sterling Place, according to its application.
The eatery's menu includes tacos, quesadillas, tortas and cocktails.
The restaurant’s owners hope the new tables will shorten wait times, as they tend to be long on nights and weekends, they said.
The outdoor seating will close an hour before the restaurant does. Chavela's hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays through Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The sidewalk cafe still needs to be approved by Community Board 8's full board at a meeting on June 11, as well as the Department of Consumer Affairs.
