QUEENS — A man who had multiple run-ins with the law dating back more than three decades was fatally shot on a Jamaica street Saturday, police said.

James Burnett, 54, of Brooklyn was shot once in the chest on the corner of 110th Road and Sutphin Boulevard around 12:45 p.m., officials said.

Burnett was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.

Police said the victim had 23 prior arrests, dating back to 1983, mostly for criminal possession of a controlled substance but also for petit larceny, robbery and rape.

The results of those cases were not immediately clear.

Police officials said that a motive for the crime is not yet known.

No arrests have been made as of Monday morning, authorities said. The investigation is ongoing.
