QUEENS —  A group of Pearl Jam fans who have already collected more than $140,000 in an effort to get the band to play at Forest Hills Stadium may be headed for disappointment, the band's management hinted on Tuesday.

Dan Sheffer, 33, initiated a Pearl Jam crowdfunding campaign campaign on Tilt, a crowdfunding site, last November. The idea was inspired by Foo Fighters fans who raised about $70,000 last year to get that band to play in Richmond, Va.

But Kelly Curtis, Pearl Jam's longtime manager, warned the fans that their efforts might fail, as first reported by the Queens Courier.

"We love the passion and enthusiasm of the fans who have spearheaded Pearl Jam Crowdfund efforts,” Curtis said in a statement Monday. “However, with more and more of these crowd-funded show proposals cropping up, we want to be clear before fans invest their hard-earned money into these efforts that they are unlikely to happen.”

Curtis also said that “the band's shows are booked through their management and touring agents.”

“A lot goes into scheduling, routing, producing and promoting safe and successful shows for our fans,” he noted. “We will continue to rely on our experts in the field to ensure this remains the case for the band's future tours.”

Sheffer said that he will continue the campaign until the band tells him directly to stop it.

“We will always respect the band's wishes and follow their guidance going forward, and we will wait for direction from them on the future of the crowdfund,” Sheffer said Monday.

As of Tuesday, about 1,500 fans contributed to the campaign, raising more than $140,000.

Fans can pledge $80, which equals a ticket to the show, or $1,000, which gives them four tickets "plus a mystery box of PJ goodies," according to the site.

Credit cards will not be charged until Pearl Jam agrees to come to Queens, the organizers said.
