EAST NEW YORK — Federal authorities open fire on the suspect in an undercover heroin investigation Tuesday afternoon, striking a getaway car, but not injuring anyone, according to officials and sources.
Drug Enforcement Administration agents, who were working with the Department of Homeland Security, made an undercover heroin purchase from a few suspects at New Lots Avenue and Bradford Street, sources said.
When authorities moved in to make an arrest one of the suspects jumped into a car and nearly ran over one of the agents trying to flee, according to officials.
"As a result, the special agent discharged his firearm, striking the engine of the suspect’s vehicle," a Homeland Security spokesman said in a statement. "No one was injured during the incident."
The suspect then got out of the vehicle and tried to run away.
The agents gave chase and arrested him, along with two accomplices.
