QUEENS — Three homes were scorched after a massive fire erupted in Elmhurst Thursday afternoon, the FDNY said.
Flames broke out in an alleyway beside 72-50 44th Ave. and a neighboring home near 44th Avenue, about 2 p.m., sending a column of black and gray smoke into the sky, according to FDNY officials.

The inferno quickly spread to 72-42 and 72-46 44th Ave., an FDNY spokesman said.
The fire was put out at 3:25 p.m. and there were no injuries.
