MANHATTAN — A man robbed six Manhattan stores for cash within a one week, police said.

In all the incidents, the suspect entered the store and either showed a knife or made a handgun-like gesture before taking money from the registers and fleeing on foot, police said. On Monday, the suspect hit three stores, police said.

The first reported robbery was on Thursday at approximately 3:25 a.m., when the man walked into the One's Fruit and Grocery at 315 1st Ave. and took $400, police said. Two days later, the man hit the same store again roughly 10:20 p.m. and stole $950, police said.

On Sunday, the suspect walked into the I.Q. Decor toy store, at 242 E. 14th St., and took $366 from the cash register, police said.

A woman who worked at the store, but didn't want to give her name, said the man waited outside the shop for several minutes for a customer to leave, took off his jacket and walked in the store.

"He came in my store and said 'Give me money and I won’t hurt you,'" the worker said.

"When he left he said 'please don't call the police in five minutes,'" she said. "I didn’t listen. He went out, then I grabbed the phone and called the cops."

The other incidents reported to police were:

► The man took $600 from the I Green Market at 271 First St. on Monday at roughly 3 a.m.

► The suspect took $200 from a store at 66 Avenue A at 5:05 p.m. on Monday.

► The man stole $250 from the New Up and Up Laundry, at 13 Avenue A, on Monday at approximately 9:05 p.m.

The last reported incident was on Tuesday, when the suspect tried to rob the East Village Fruit and Vegetable, at 229 Avenue B, at roughly 1:45 a.m., police said.

The suspect was described by police as a man in his 40s.
