SOUTH STREET SEAPORT — South Street Seaport is offering emerging fashion designers.

Seaport Studios — a two-story pop-up that will showcase a rotating selection of wares from emerging fashion designers and features an art gallery and coffee bar — is set to open in June.

The pop-up, at the corner of Fulton and Front streets, is a collaboration between Seaport owner Howard Hughes Corporation and Women's Wear Daily, a fashion-industry trade journal.

The project is envisioned as "an eclectic mix of fashion, art, food and beverage in a curated environment, that will feature up-and-coming styles and design," according to a statement from the partnership.

The 5,000 square-foot space, designed with the area's maritime history in mind, will showcase up to five designers at a time, and rotate its selection every couple of months.

Fashion team John Targon and Scott Studenberg, the designers behind clothing line Baja East, are slated to be one of the first brands to show in the space.

For now, the plan is to run the pop-up through 2015, but there's a possibility that it will stay open longer, organizers said.

The showcasing could also lead individual designers to get their own permanent space in the Seaport. The area is undergoing a massive overhaul, including a sleek redevelopment of Pier 17, and is still working to curate tenants for its retail spaces.

Over the past several months, a variety of boutiques with eclectic wares, have opened along Fulton Street, some as permanent shops, others as long-term pop-ups.
