CHELSEA — The man who beat up a pregnant woman because she didn't thank him when he opened the door for her was arrested on Thursday, police said.
Darryl Gillyard, 32, was arrested at his apartment inside the Elliot Houses, where the assault victim, Lakeeya Walker, worked as a NYCHA caretaker.
Gillyard was charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Walker, who is nine weeks pregnant, previously told DNAinfo New York that Gillyard threw a cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee in her face, tossed her to the ground, choked her and kicked her in her stomach and crotch after she failed to thank him when he opened the door for her.
"He said, 'I'm going to kick this baby out of your womb,'" Walker told DNAinfo New York a few days after the assault, which happened around 11:30 a.m on March 5.
The fetus did not suffer in the attack, Walker said, but the 22 year-old mother-to-be said she was still traumatized weeks later. She was moved to Amsterdam Houses after the attack.
