ROSSVILLE — Fifteen firefighters and one civilian were injured in a massive Staten Island blaze that destroyed four houses, fire officials said.

The fire started around 4:11 p.m. at 134 Hampton Place and then spread to three rowhouses attached to the home, a spokesman for the FDNY said. Two other homes were also affected by the fire and a total of 10 needed evacuation, the Red Cross said.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 6:26 p.m., officials said. It was listed as a four-alarm fire and 168 firefighters responded to the scene, officials said.

Fifteen firefighters were taken to Staten Island University Hospital with minor injuries, officials said. One resident was taken to Staten Island University in serious but stable condition, officials said.

The Red Cross said it was on scene to provide emergency assistance for residents on Hampton Place and already helped on household. The Red Cross said that three other families might need assistance — including funds and temporary housing — on Tuesday.
